Step-by-step guide for every PDFstudio tool

Merge PDF

  • Click "Merge PDF" or select from the Tools menu.
  • Drag and drop two or more PDF files into the upload area, or click to browse.
  • Files appear in a list — you can remove any unwanted file using the × button.
  • Click "Merge PDFs" to combine all selected files into a single PDF in the order listed.
  • Once complete, click Download to save your merged PDF.

Compress PDF

  • Upload a single PDF to the Compress tool.
  • The tool reads and displays the original file size instantly.
  • Use the slider to choose your compression level — from Minimal to Maximum. The estimated final size and savings % update live as you drag.
  • Click "Compress PDF" to process. The tool removes metadata and optimises object streams.
  • Download the compressed PDF. Note: highly-optimised or text-only PDFs may see smaller size reductions than image-heavy files.

Split PDF

  • Open the Split PDF tool from the grid or Tools dropdown.
  • Upload a single PDF by dragging or clicking the drop zone.
  • Choose your split method: Every page (one file per page), By range (specify page numbers like 1-3, 5), or Into halves.
  • For "By range", type your page range in the text box that appears.
  • Click "Split PDF" — multiple output files are automatically downloaded in sequence.

Rearrange PDF

  • Upload one PDF to the Rearrange tool.
  • All pages load as draggable rows numbered in order.
  • Drag any row up or down using the handle on the left to set your desired page order.
  • Numbers update live as you move pages around.
  • Click "Apply New Order" to generate and download the reordered PDF.

Advanced Rearrange

  • Upload one or multiple PDFs — all pages are loaded into a unified view.
  • Pages appear in a bookmark-style tree structure, similar to Adobe Acrobat's panel.
  • Click the pencil icon next to any page or section to rename it.
  • Use the indent/outdent buttons to nest pages under parent bookmark sections, creating a logical hierarchy.
  • Drag rows (or entire bookmark groups) to rearrange their position in the document.
  • Expand or collapse bookmark groups using the ▶ / ▼ toggle arrows.
  • Add new bookmark/section headers using the "+ Add Section" button.
  • When satisfied, click "Apply & Export" to generate a rearranged PDF matching your hierarchy.

Rotate PDF

  • Upload your PDF to the Rotate tool.
  • Each page appears as a card. Use the ↻ buttons to set individual page rotations (90°, 180°, 270°).
  • Use the quick buttons "All 90°", "All 180°", etc. to rotate every page at once.
  • A gold badge on each card shows the current rotation. Click again to toggle it off.
  • Click "Apply Rotations" to save and download the rotated PDF.

Extract Pages

  • Open Extract Pages and upload a PDF.
  • Type a page range (e.g. "1-3, 5, 8-10") in the text field, or click individual page thumbnails to select them visually.
  • Both methods can be combined — the range field takes priority if filled.
  • Click "Extract Pages" to create a new PDF containing only your selected pages.

Delete Pages

  • Upload a PDF to the Delete Pages tool.
  • Enter page numbers to delete (e.g. "2, 4-6") in the text field, or click page thumbnails to mark them red.
  • Click "Delete Selected Pages" — those pages are removed and the rest are saved into a new PDF.
  • Download the result. The original file is never modified.

Compare PDF

  • Upload two PDFs — one as "Original" and one as "Revised".
  • Click "Compare PDFs" to analyse both documents side by side.
  • A summary shows additions, removals, page count difference, and file sizes.
  • The diff panel highlights changed lines in green (added) or red (removed).

Export PDF

  • Upload a PDF to the Export tool.
  • Choose your output format: Word (.docx), Rich Text (.rtf), Plain Text (.txt), HTML (.html), JPG Image (.jpg), or Excel (.xlsx).
  • Click "Convert PDF" — the tool processes all pages in your browser, no file is uploaded to any server.
  • For Excel: the tool detects tables drawn with visible borders and maps each cell into the correct row and column. Pages with multiple tables are exported as separate sheets.
  • For JPG: each page is rendered as a high-resolution image and downloaded individually.
  • For Word / RTF / HTML: text is extracted with layout preserved as closely as possible.
  • Download the exported file once processing is complete.
  • ⚠️ This tool is under active development — outputs may not be fully accurate for complex layouts. Use the Feedback section to report issues.

Extract Comments

  • Open the "Extract Comments" tool and upload any PDF that has been annotated in Adobe Acrobat or a compatible viewer.
  • Supported annotation types: sticky notes, highlights, strikethroughs, underlines, freehand ink drawings, text boxes (FreeText), stamps, shapes (square, circle, line), and file attachments.
  • Click "Extract Comments to Word" — the tool scans every page and collects each annotation's type, author, date, colour, and text content.
  • For highlight/underline/strikethrough annotations, the tool also attempts to recover the underlying marked text from the page.
  • The result is a structured .docx report organised page-by-page, which you can download and share or import into Excel/Teams.
  • If no annotations are found the report will state so — some PDFs have comments saved as image overlays (flattened) rather than true annotations, which cannot be extracted by this tool.

About PDFstudio

Built by Atlas Copco GECIA

Why PDFstudio Exists?

PDFstudio was developed by the Atlas Copco GECIA Core process Team to address a real operational challenge: engineers, service teams, and document controllers across Atlas Copco facilities frequently needed to manipulate PDF documents: merging service reports, rearranging technical manuals, splitting large drawings - but had no fast, browser-native tool available on restricted corporate systems.

Traditional tools required software installation, cloud uploads, or costly licences. PDFstudio was built to run entirely in your browser- no data ever leaves your device, no accounts needed, no external servers involved. It is designed to be safe, compliant, and instantly accessible across all Atlas Copco locations.

Who It's For?

PDFstudio serves Atlas Copco teams globally - from field service engineers managing compressor documentation, to procurement handling supplier PDFs, to HR and finance teams working with multi-page reports. The "Advanced Rearrange" feature was specifically requested to mirror the bookmark-based page management found in Adobe Acrobat Pro, enabling structured reordering of large technical documents like service manuals and part catalogues.

Privacy & Security

All PDF processing happens locally in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your files are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. No analytics, no telemetry, no ads. You remain in complete control of your documents at all times.
